Book Review: Girl With A Pearl Earring

Have you ever wondered when looking at a painting - I wonder who that is? What made the painter choose that pose? Well, this is the basic premise for Girl With A Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. It is a work of fiction, bring to life the famous work of art by Johannes Vermeer.

17th century Delft really comes to life, as Chevalier tells the story of Griet, a servant in the Vermeer household, who catches the eye of one of Vermeers patrons. For this patron, Vermeer paints Griet. It is a secret from his wife, which can never end well, for him or for Griet.

The characters are detailed and descriptions wonderful. I loved this book, and can't wait to read others by Chevalier.
